SDUK’s 2025 Mission Statement

We’re starting 2025 with the publication of our new manifesto. This document represents multiple discussions we’ve had with members over the past year and will become the focus for our work going forward.

Our manifesto covers all the work our members do across the UK, whether that is with fringe / independent companies, in the commercial or subsidised sectors, or in drama schools and higher education. Whatever your place within the industry as members of SDUK we are lobbying on your behalf.

Whilst some headway has been made in the past decade, contracts, pay and conditions still do not reflect the reality of a directors engagement. Post pandemic we are also seeing those terms being eroded. We are calling on managers, funders and policy makers to put the creative workforce at the centre of our industry and to show that you are valued.

Pay us to lead

Pay us to create

Pay us to educate

2025 is a significant year for us. It is ten years since we became a fully-fledged membership organisation. It is also the year we will elect our first ever General Secretary to lead our Trade Union, and we will also be electing a new council. The manifesto will frame the work of the new General Secretary and council going forward. It has been written after extensive conversations and discussion with our members, and represents the challenges directors face across the UK.

There will be lots of opportunity for all members to get involved with this manifesto. As a trade union we are nothing without the continued guidance of our membership, and we look forward to working with you all in 2025.
